I am deadly accurate with mine at 100yds and everyone else who has shot it does rather well also. I have shot several AK's and none have been as comfortable as mine (by either my own or the other owners standards) and I have yet to find another AK that is as easy to shoot good with. Years ago (around '95) I put a Fiberforce stock on mine which is vaguely like a Dragonov stock, and am still very pleased with it to this day. Now I just need to put some finish on the wood - thinking a little black rit dye solution will give it a different look before a few coats of oil or varathane to finish it up. I'm very happy with the results - you could probably take the rifle out for a day of shooting w/o even putting a bolt in the stock. The fit was really good as it came from Matt, but I wanted a perfect fit and did a little more inletting and then used acragel to bed the stub in the receiver and a little around the mating edges with the receiver (my inletting wasn't great). I was about to just sell my Norinco MAK90 and find something else, it is a great shooter and is very tight so I really wanted to convert it, then I found the Ironwood site and after some emails to Matt over there I decided to keep the Norinco and try one of his laminated stock sets. I'm sure others will have some suggestions to consider also.Įspecially if you have a MAK90 with the dreaded slant cut receiver - this is about the only nice alternative you'll find for the thumbhole stock.

When you remove the thumbhole stock for a more traditional style you have to add U.S. Go here to check out their site: Īfter you determine the stock type issue, then you can move onto the 922(r) compliance issues. I believe they are about the only ones that make a wood stock for a Slant cut. If you have a SLANT cut - then you can check out Ironwood Designs. If you have a Straight cut receiver, then you have more options on the brands of stocks that you can use. Go here: You'll want yours to look like the description towards the bottom of the page in the above link. This site explains the different style of Receivers. To do this you'll have to remove the thumbhole stock. One thing you need to determine is if your receiver is a SLANT cut or STRAIGHT cut.

A couple of months ago I converted my MAK90 to a more traditional pistol grip stock the AK47 uses.
